Buried "Bone"

On 12 March 1994 Pete Merlin and Eric LeVeque searched for the B-1A crash site. After exploring several dirt roads in the vicinity, they found an area that was devoid of vegetation. It was also covered with a scattering of metal and fiberglass debris.

Pete and Eric searched the debris field and identified numerous pieces with B-1 part numbers and North American Rockwell inspection stamps. Some of the parts were even marked: AV-2. Fragments of external skin had green and gray paint over a base coat of gloss white. AV-2 had started out white and was later painted in green/gray "European 1" camouflage.

This was unquestionably the B-1A crash site. Despite the fact that the site had been bulldozed, there was a fair amount of material on the ground. There was quite a bit more below the surface.
